Launched in 1989 on the initiative of Gino Di Maggio (the owner of various Milanese galleries since the ‘60s), this is the first Italian foundation set up to promote contemporary art. The main focus is on the artists of the Fluxus and Nouveau Réalisme movements. In addition, the Foundation pays a great deal of attention to the Far East, staging exhibitions on artists from China, Japan and Korea. The basement area, which is not always accessible to visitors, plays host on a permanent basis to Wolf Vostell’s masterpiece, La quinta del sordo (1974), an installation with a swimming pool, photographs and videos.
