The red tower that dominates the Porta Venezia area of the city and the low, white building alongside it first saw light some time in 1933 in the plans of architects Emilio Lancia and Giò Ponti. There are twelve stories in total, the lower eight fronted by a semi-circular protrusion that juts outwards towards the bastions of the old Porta Venezia city gate. The tower is crowned by a belvedere and all but the ground floor is clad in an alternating pattern of vertically and horizontally oriented bricks.
